SHARKS have been problematic in the Burdekin River this year with many fishermen reporting the loss of prize fish to sharks.
It’s an issue dear to the heart of retired shark hunter, Vic Hislop.
Vic regularly calls into Groper Creek and takes time to educate as many people as possible on the behaviour of the ace predators.
“Shark numbers are increasing, and people need to be aware of the dangers,” he said.
“Not enough is being done to protect people and I question the statistics with missing swimmers and surfers reported as drowning deaths when they’ve actually been taken by sharks.”
