WHILE the forthcoming Local Ambulance Committee Conference is being promoted as a joint effort of the Ayr and Home Hill Committees, the fact is that there are eight Ayr members and one from Home Hill – with the two committees operating as one while the Home Hill membership is limited.
Secretary of the Ayr LAC, Merelyn McIntosh explained that they couldn’t get a committee in Home Hill, which resulted in the only Home Hill member, Maria Pitcher working with the Ayr Members until more could be encouraged to join the Home Hill numbers.
“The Home Hill accounts still exist and if anything is needed at the Home Hill Station, we would buy it out of that money,” she said.
Some members of the Ayr Committee have been volunteering for a long period of time, with President Brian Sorohan being on the committee for over 25 years, while Mrs McIntosh has been working for the Ayr LAC for over 22 years.
Mrs McIntosh said that Maria Pitcher had been a member of the Home Hill Committee before the Ayr Committee took control of it in 2019.
She said it was hard to get people to become involved in organisations anymore – a common thought among members of organisations through- out the Burdekin District.
If anyone in Home Hill would like to join the Home Hill Local Ambulance Committee, they should contact the Secretary of the Ayr LAC, Mrs Merelyn McIntosh on 0409 825 236.
