The “Burdekin” residents should note that Cr Ian Macdonald went on to greater things in his role as a Senator for Queensland.
Following his retirement after his years of service, he was awarded an AM in the King’s Birthday Honours in June 2023 for “Significant service to the people and Parliament of Australia, to Local Government and to the community of Northern Australia”.
His award was presented by the State Governor in Townsville earlier in October.
