Avoid scammers claiming to be from NBN Co
Australians aged 65 and above accounted for 86 per cent of losses due to nbn impersonation scams reported to the National Anti-Scam Centre via Scamwatch from January to July 2024. (Sorry it is the latest information I can find.)
From January to July 2024, Scamwatch received 863 reports of scams mentioning nbn, with financial losses of more than $411,000.
nbn’s top tips are:
- F – Focus on the details: nbn will never call to ask to remotely access your devices, such as your mobile phone or computer, or to ask you for payment.
- I – Ignore: If the call is unexpected and you suspect the caller is not really from nbn, hang up immediately.
- T – Take action: If you do answer the call, hang up on a suspected scammer and don’t respond to their texts or emails. Then report them to the National Anti-Scam Centre via Scamwatch.gov.au/report-a-scam
Tim says the following about Burdekin Rum:
We’re an Australian farm-style rum producer. We run a water bottling business and own a 100 acre farm which has an aquifer underneath it.
We’re adjacent to Bowling Green National Park in North Queensland. In 2020, we took a close look at our mineral water business and our options, and set up the distillery. We’re located in the heart of the Burdekin, Australia’s premier sugar cane growing region, with a much higher brix than other regions.
So we decided to diversify into rum, and more specifically into the French Caribbean agricultural style – although, of course, you can’t call it that! We reduce all our spirits with our own mineral water.
For more information about Burdekin Rum see their website at https://burdekinrum.com.au/
The meeting is open to Chamber Members as well as Members of the Public.
Drinks can be purchased from the bar.
You can just turn up but your RSVP to secretary@homehillchamber.com.au will be appreciated so as to assist us with anticipating the number of attendees.
